Reservoir characterisation and static modelling
Integration of well logs and core alongside seismic interpretation helps to understand depositional environments and build conceptual models. This helps us to improve reservoir architecture, connectivity and property distribution which can be used in static modelling. This information alongside petrophysics helps us to build volumetric estimates, which may be key to a drill or drop decision.
Field development and prospect appraisal
We can help to identify geological uncertainties affecting well placement, compartmentalisation, connectivity and remaining hydrocarbon potential. We can assist with fundamental questions such as are the reservoir rocks actually there, and will they have enough porosity to hold fluid? Understanding facies distribution allows for identifying the best reservoir sands within the prospect and are there any baffles segregating reservoir intervals.
Energy Transition
Reservoir Geologists have a key role to play in the Energy Transition. In CCS, we can help to identify seal competency and capacity estimation. We can also identify safe sites by predicting how the formation will react once CO2 is injected into the formation. In Geothermal, we can perform permeability mapping, to identify the high fluid flow pathways necessary to power turbines. In Hydrogen Exploration, we can identify potential reservoirs and seals, similar to traditional hydrocarbon exploration.
